Journey through the desert
In the Bible, we read about the Israelites who wandered through the desert for 40 years, experiencing many dangers, but mostly complaining—we don't have this, we don't have that, we don't want this, we don't want that. They blamed God, saying that it was His fault, that He wanted them to suffer there and ultimately die in the desert.
Numbers 14:2 All the Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and the whole assembly said to them, "If only we had died in Egypt! Or in this wilderness!
But they did not understand that it was only meant to be a short time for them to focus on important things. Here, God wanted to speak to them; He wanted to teach them many things.
Deuteronomy 8:2 2Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. 3He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. .….16 He gave you manna to eat in the wilderness, something your ancestors had never known, to humble and test you so that in the end it might go well with you.

They did not understand why God treated them this way—they focused only on what they lacked and therefore did not discover what God had in store for them.
How is it with us? We can find ourselves in the desert – we can get sick and suddenly we can't do what we used to do, we can feel alone – that's what the desert is like. We can experience a wasteland in our relationships – being alone in the midst of people. We can have financial difficulties, and that can be hard too.
You can pray like this: Lord Jesus Christ, talk to me, I want to hear your voice, I open my heart to you, come into my life. Lead me out of this wilderness. Forgive me my sins, maybe I'm in this wilderness because of what I'm doing. But you have the power to change my life and give my life meaning. Become my Lord and the one who shows me the way. I want to follow you. Amen.
